Plastics Working Group
In 1995, the Environment Center convened the Berkeley Plastics Task Force to study plastic waste issues and provide data to the City of Berkeley to determine whether plastics could be appropriately included in the recycling program. The Plastics Task Force included Ecology Center and Barrier staff, representatives from the Berkeley Recycling Program, representatives from the university community, and other environmental experts. The Plastics Task Force consulted with geographic organizations, plastics industry experts, recycling system operators, waste management companies and government agencies.organs. The task force’s work provides a comprehensive, scientific and independent look at the entire life cycle of plastics, from production to disposal.
